For
one-color basket:
Cut two patterns from folded cards.
You will have two identical heart halves, each with four
strips.
For two-color basket: Cut one pattern from two different
color cards.
Here's
how to weave the two pieces together:
-
Turn the pieces at right angles to each other. Grasp the
top strip of one piece and insert it between two layers
of the first strip of the other piece. (Fig. 1)
-
Alternate
by inserting the next strip between the next two layers
of the strip from the other piece. (Fig. 2) Continue to
work alternately forming a checkerboard pattern. Do the
weaving close to the ends of the strips, and push each
row further up into the heart shape. The last row will
be tight, and you may need to bend the paper to insert
it.
-
The
finished piece will open like a basket. Add a ribbon or
a paper strip handle. If desired, cut a decorative edge
along the upper arches of the heart. Stamp on the checkerboard
pattern and the heart arches, or embellish with punched
shapes for special effects.
